I have used other browser specific filters but I know how to get around them. So even if I have my wife put a filter on firefox or some other browser I can get a round it. But with k9 web protection even if you install a new browser it automatically sets up on the new web browser so you won't be able to use that trick.
I actually am using K9 right now. I love it. I had Safe Eyes but even if I had this site in the allow box it would still not allow me to look at this thread because it had the word porn in it. I even removed the keyword filter and it still wouldn't let me access the thread. I really like K9 and run it myself. I created an admin password that was made up of words and numbers that to me say STOP just incase I am being tempted and try to access the admin opions. Thanks for all the advice guys!
I use Net Nanny. I have used Covenant Eyes and found a way to get around it. If you're an addict like me, you may discover a way around it too, because addicts tend to be good at these kinds of tricks. ( don't worry, I won't tell you what I did). But I also want to mention that I think Net Nanny is a great filter and cheap too. Net Nanny costs like $40 for one year. I've never seen anything cheaper. And the way it works is called dynamic contextual analysis (I may have got the term slightly incorrect), but here's the point: if you, for instance, block pornography on Net Nanny, then whenever you go to a site, Net Nanny analyzes the contents of the webpage in real time and decides whether or not to classify the page as pornography. There are many categories that can be blocked on Net Nanny besides pornography such as hate sites, sites used to sell illegal weapons, and several others. Profanity can be blocked -- there are many options with Net Nanny. In addition to this you can arrange to have an e-mail sent to some other trusted person or people, such as your wife, girlfriend, pastor, etc. that records your web activity -- this way someone else can hold you accountable. Even just blocking the category of pornography has solved most of my problem. You can check it out at netnanny.com or contentwatch.com. Hope this helps and best of luck!
