god? why god?
Hi to you all. I'm posting here for the first time since I discovered the pink cross just a while ago.
I've been a porn addict for over two decades, with ups and downs just like everyone else. Being a regular thinking being I do realize porn in general and the porn industry in particular is morally evil. I also realize masturbation in itself isn't wrong or evil, and can be for some people a way to discover pleasure, to explore new feelings. Most of my addiction doesn't revolve around nor is centered by mastubation. I can watch porn litterally for hours without masturbating and two years ago I thought I had my addiction under control when I could see porn, be aroused by it, masturbate, get an orgasm and the whole thing would last for 5-10 minutes tops and not invade my everyday life. When things are really bad, I don't masturbate, or very little, and watch porn almost all day, getting to come, and not every time, after HOURS of watching. The sensation of being aroused for hours is what seems to be my drug, not the orgasm in itself at all.
I don't think I'm a religious person in the sense people seem to be over here. I pray a lot, I pray for my dead children, for my wife and my soon-to-be daughter every time I lie down and close my eyes. But I'm not sure I believe in god and what I'm absolutely sure of is that fighting against abortion or masturbation or birth control like the roman catholic church does is against my deepest beliefs. And somewhere in this forum, someone posted a message making it perfectly clear that in countries where abortion is illegal, it still takes place and still kills children, but also mothers.
Porn is morally evil because it's an offense to humanity, not because it's an offense to god. If there's someone up there, I'm kinda sure he/she sees porn is a source of pain for everyone. There's no need for any devil to inspire us to get high, drink, kill, be violent: all primates do, that's who we are. Chimpanzees kill their own kin out of jaleousy or even simple anger. I'm not trying to excuse us for what we are, just saying there is no real need to push us to do all this: we do it real well alone. Or, to stop talking about others: no one points a gun at my head when I download porn and watch it, knowing perfectly it's going to be a major source of anxiety afterwards. The white-bearded guy up there (or maybe she is a beautiful middle-aged african woman, who actually does look like the mother of humanity) just watches me and feels sad for me because he/she knows in the end, suffering is all mine. People around me do suffer from my addiction but I'm the one who suffers most. He/she does nothing to prevent me because there's nothing to do, responsability is all mine. There's no such thing as an evil spirit inviting me to be someone I hate to be, I just do it on my own.
Sometimes, I wonder why I started liking porn when I was 15 instead of starting liking booze or kitesurf or football. We probably have to carry one bag of pain, every one of us, and this is my bag. There is no such thing as succumbing to my flesh, because my spirit and body are me, not two separate persons, and I am responsible for my actions. And even if I'm not completely responsible for my history, I certainly am responsible for who I am. There is no such thing as sin, because god has no need to punish me when the addiction comes back, anxiety attacks do the job perfectly well.
I'm not expecting any answer from god, because she is all love and knows there are no answers, only good questions, and good questions don't really need an answer. I've had a nightmarish childhood, but most of the nightmare I lived recently came from my own actions, my own thoughts, my own way of seeing things. I slowly came to think that my children died just after being born of an extremely rare disease because there was no room in my life/thoughts/person for them. They sensed my rejection, or worse my non-acceptance of them and as they loved their dad so much, they died, helped by god's mercy who thought sending these little babies near someone like me wasn't a favour done to them.
Do I have to accept Jesus to leave my addiction? Who is Jesus, anyway? He's a guy saying what Buddha says, what all religions throughout human history said and what every human being should say: doing evil will harm yourself more than it harms others, except if you're a crazy pervert in which case you can go and shake hands with my father.
My addiction sadly is a part of me and I think I'll have to live with it for the rest of my life. I hope it'll help me help someone else, so all that pain isn't lost nor vain.
Are you as tolerant and open minded as you claim you are? Let's see...
Blessings to you all.

Howdy Dwab. You're question was the primary reason I logged on.
I've had my bouts with porn since I was 15. Soft core, hard core, whatever...it was porn. Some of the memories are STILL in my mind. But it's a Thorn that God is drawing out of me, slowly but surely.
I've known the LORD since 82. I came to him because he came to me and he loved me AS I WAS, and I was awnry to the core. But he met me mid-way and has been loving me as I am. He's proven to me time and time again that his love for me endures through all of my stubborness and weakness. Simply put, he loved me and I love him back.
Now you ask, "Why God"? I say pick a side. Yup...pick a side cuz like it or not we've been tossed into a game where we didn't ask to play, and that game is called Life. God created us in his image, satan was thrown from Heaven and is making every effort to destroy as many humans mocking God all the time. A person says 'there's no devil, it (evil) in all of us inherently. I say that there's a large amount of substantial proof (throughout history) that there is a devil. Be it from those who've followed him to those who've battled him. Evil entered the earth via the Devil (and Adams actions) and he's well inclined to maintain it, to our destruction. Porn is just ONE way in which he separates Man from God. Through that sin. When we sin sexually, we sin against our own bodies and our minds. Thus confusion when we participate and after.
Now we get to God and Jesus Christ; If Jesus Christ was not an extrodinary individual (or the Messiah)...where is his body?? In his time he was considered a great threat to the Jewish Religious leaders and surely had his disciples stolen that body and backed Jesus claims to raise himself from the dead they (the Sanhedrin and the Pharisees) would be out of work (so to speak). Needless to say that if this individuals body had been stolen the whole sect of followers of this supposed Christ would rebel against the age old religion known as Judaism.
So...we have 2 factors to deal with and we're tossed into the middle of it. And WE are the chesspieces of this battle.
With all that said, we HAVE to pick a side.
Jesus loves you and us. He has given us life through his Blood and has Risen from the dead, thus defeating death and the devil itself.
I sure hope that helps you, and you'll be in my prayers.
Stay Safe, choose Life
Son of Adam
Yes you can do it. Hang in there my friend. We love you very much!
Well the day I'll feel harassed by someone on a forum would be the day for me to commit suicide I guess ;-) I see so much misery in my everyday job that considering anything written on a forum by someone I don't even remotely know as harassment would be hugely inappropriate.
Fundamentalism is only helping fundamentalists themselves, and I don't really care about them. In fact, I really think some of the porn addicts here could've been lured into the addiction by too much frustration in their youth. I respect people's views when they respect mine and saying (almost) every opinion can and should be respected isn't the end of a debate, only its beginning.
Living in Europe, I probably see things about religion very differently from you in the US. But believe me, beating porn addiction is just as hard. I think over here, what Shelley does would be regarded with a certain amount of contempt, but since it actually helps people out of enslavement even if it's like spectacular reality TV, well at least the cause itself is a good one.
I keep on thinking about Belladonna and how she kept on acting in very hardcore porn when she was pregnant. Is that the kind of example her kid(s) are going to look up to? Is that what she thinks a mother is? I feel sorry for her, even if it'll just make her laugh at me. It just makes me feel that is NOT the example I want to give mine.
Its hard, really, but I think I can at last do it?
What's up dwab I love you and I'm praying for you be encouraged Jesus loves you I do too. Stay on the forum. This is a NON-JUDGEMENTAL forum
I hope it helps, my friend. If you will allow me to be your friend.
I gotta tell you redirecting that energy is a really good idea. I have kind of felt like that was one of my ways of fighting this. one thing that helped me was getting out of my house. I went on a leaders retreat with my college youth group, it was a 3 day thing out in the middle of nowhere, out on someone's farm. it was nice. but the big thing was, it was a definite change in scenery, it let me clear my head.
Crazy, that may be, but I know from first hand experience you can recover from that. It's not easy, and it's not quick, but it is possible. so hang in there and keep going to that therapy, especially when it helps. I also listen to alot of music, it seems to help
I was kind of curious about what the name stood for.
Also, thanks for noticing the difference between God and some of his people. Please don't let anyone run you out of here, if anyone starts harassing you, please tell one of our moderators or admins. that is what they are here for. I am not a moderator or admin or anything but I am here for you also.
Hello LJ Phoenix. God might be a gentleman but some of his followers aren't, a bit like my little friend Golden Eagle above, whom I asked kindly not to lecture me on subjects I'm quite aware of and who keeps on ranting for pages about what I should do and what I shouldn't do -not that I did take time to read the message fully. In fact, as I already said, god is quite unlucky to have such followers because they're not the answer to un-religion, they're the problem.
Coming here and speaking about myself and how I feel about god wasn't easy. And I never gave up fighting and hope I never will -I recently read on the forum that fighting maybe wasn't the real way to handle things, maybe re-directing the energy is.
What a strange name DWAB must appear. It's the initials I used for the myspace profile I once had "dom with a brain" -now deleted and gone for good. I used myspace for virtual sex with people I was certain I'll never meet in real life, mostly trans-gendered men I guess. I wrote sex stories people seemed to like. I even had some sort of written SM fantasy with a girl/woman which we both wrote in common for a while. I really am crazy. When I think about what life has to offer and what I take of it I realize I am crazy.
Well, nothing in me is written in stone and therapy helps. Maybe posting here helps as well.
DWAB, Hey buddy, How are you doing? I just want to encourage you, Hang in there, everything in life has a shelf life. all you have to do is out last it. so keep fighting this addiction and dont give up. lean on us when you need to. We are here for you. even if someof us don't look like it, we all mean well.
God is a gentleman, He will not force himself on you. and He does love you very much, We all believe in you. Hang in there buddy!
Real help is only going to come through Jesus. To believe other wise is only self deception. Just like you claim not to believe in God and yet you yourself say that you pray to God.
You talk about evidence based medicine, well come on, in any science you don't start off with a solution because if you did you would not need to do any research. You start off with a hypothesis and try to draw a conclusion.
For that matter medical science thinks it's self to be it's own god, the way it thinks itself to be more knowledgable than ancient herbalist. So using modern medical science is not really a rallyiing point for your reasoning.
But either way, the fact remains that you have chosen to be bitter and you are chosing to reject God. You can say that an after life doesn't matter but that is just a cop out and you know it. Because if any part of you does believe in God, and it does, than you know some where inside that there is a hell.
If you think you are suffering now, then I can tell you for a fact that it does not compare to what kind of suffering will happen if you end up in hell.
All you are doing is trying to find ways to convince yourself God is not real, because if you did believe in Jesus, then you would have to accept the fact that you are sending yourself to hell.
If you want to talk about knowing research than do some yourself on the Bible. There have been a number of studies comparing the Bible to original manuscripts by well known universities and inspite of the language it has been deemed to be 100% accurate in it's doctrine. I did not say in language translations because there will always be differences if you know anything about linquistics. There is a difference between word for word translation and principle translation.
For instance word for word translation between some languages is impossible because some words don't exist in other languages. Also, word order and grammar in a word to word translation can give a completely different expression compared to a translation based on principles.
In the end God is a fact and you have a right to reject His only way for you to be free from hell. This is not a cold hearted God, this is a God that loved you so much that He was willing to die for you. How many people do you know that actually died in your place? And I am not talking about some one jumping on a grenade to save your life in the spur of a moment. Which I am not deminishing such a heroic act. I am talking about someone who willingly decided to take the criminal punishment for the crimes of sin that you and I commited against a Holy God.
Jesus willingly agreed to and went and did die and pay for our sin crimes against God. He suffered horribly at the hands of men out of love for you and me and everyone. So God is anything but cold hearted.
Since you say you know something about research, then before you jump to conclusions about God, try studying the Bible and understanding what is being said. If you are so well educated then surely you have taken some classes on classical literature. You should understand the nuances of phrases and meanings in liturature that are not always apparent upon reading just a paragraph.
Whether or not you choose to accept or reject God, God still loves you. He does want a relationship with you inspite what you may be thinking. If you do choose to reject Him the only person you are hurting is yourself. Because God is not cold hearted, he is not hurting you, that is the devil who is doing that. God has provided everyone a way back to him, even though he really did not half too.
The choice is yours.
Mr GoldenEagle, you're not helping me at all. I heard your gobbledegook a billion times before and it's the main reason why I never go to Church and feel I'm not a believer. If god was this omnipotent stone-hearted, cold-blooded, unsmiling and ruthless abomination you describe, then my father would be god's right arm.
I don't care about the historical pertinence of the bible. I was taught quite a bit in Evidence Based Medicine and I have quite an idea about academic research so please don't give me the old "hard evidence" routine about the bible. There's a very simple fact about it that sums up what I think about "words of the bible" : in French, Revelations were translated as "Apocalypse"... It has some kind of different meaning and gives the whole chapter a little different colour don't you think? Not to mention the fact that its text was translated TWICE to come to us in our respective languages, which makes me a little suspicious about the exact word of the bible, as seen as the word of god.
People believe in the bible is okay with me, what disturbs me is people believing more in its word than in its spirit, like you. If jesus woke up today, I think he'd be sort of a quiet guy and would ask more questions than he gave ready-made answers.
Devil or no devil? Heaven, hell, afterlife or not doesn't matter to me. Faith? I think I have a sort of faith, I do pray a lot for sure but never go to church nor see any kind of priest. Maybe I should. Anyway, being punished for my sins in afterlife doesn't mean much to me, I'm punished hard enough today.
Real help is welcome and thanks to everyone ;-)
The difference between Jesus and the other religions is that you don't have to work or earn your place in heaven. In fact in accord with the Bible, it is impossible for anyone to earn any thing in order to achieve heaven because the price for sin is eternal life in the lake of fire (first comes hell then the lake of fire which is worse). Because God is a perfect God, thus a perfect Judge, sin has to be judged. It can't be over looked or excused.
Therefore out of God's great and over whelming love for you and me and out of a desperate love to save us from the lake of fire, which was only created for the devil and his angels, Jesus the Son of God chose to come to earth in the form of a man, and allow Himself to suffer at the hands of men and to die under the judgement of God in our place. Jesus also rose again three days later.
The huge difference between Jesus and all the other religions, is that none of them was willing to suffer unimaginable trauma inorder to save your life from death. No other religious god even mentions about being willing to give up one of their own kidney's to save a life let alone, one who was willing to take upon Himself all the sins (things that bring death), upon himself so that He could offer you life in exchange for all your death.
There is also a very real devil. He hates all of mankind because mankind was and is created in the image of God. We are God's children and the devil wants to hurt God as much as possible and the only way the devil can do that is to hurt those that God loves.
Bad things happen in life, not because God is punishing anyone for sin, not even nations. God poured out his punishment on Jesus. For God to punish for sins now would be like double jeopardy in a legal sense. The problem with sin is that it causes the protection of God to be removed from that person's life. To which the devil comes and to kill steal and destroy. Even in the original language it bears this principle out. When a scripture says God will smite, the original language is God will allow.
The problem with just watching porn and not lusting is like playing with matches. When I was a kid I use to play with matches. In fact my friends and I use to go into the sheds and find all kinds of things like paint remover and other cans of liquid stuff that we didn't have a clue what they where. It did make for some very pretty looking flames. The problem came one day when we did this the grass around us was very dry and we let the grass on fire. We also happened to be under a shelter with this happened. We franticly got the flames out before it caught the whole field on fire but I still ended up with sinched hair. The point is that when why play with fire you can get burnt. So it is when you play with porn.
You are right in that masturbation is not a sin, but playing with porn is the fire that can lead you into sin. And when sin is concieved it will bring death. Just like when God said to Adam & Eve that if they eat this fruit they will die. It didn't mean that they would drop dead that moment, though physical death did come later. But they did suffer the death of the good life in the garden, the death of ease of getting food from the ground, etc.
So it is with any sin. It is not that the sin of porn is any worse or better than another, but like any sin it does bring with it death. In God's word he says the wages of sin is death. Notice the word wages is plural. It means that sin has more the one kind of consequence.
Continous sin also builds up chains, spiritual chains which you can not see that will draw you back to sin more and more. Even when you don't want it to. Whom you yield yourself master to, to him will you be mastered. The only way to be set free from this is by Jesus, to which He wants to set you free. He loves you with a love that goes beyond human reasoning and inspite of your sin he wants you with all of his heart.
For while we where yet sinners Jesus died for you. God is not angery at you even when you are watching porn all day long. He weeps for you when you are doing this, becuase you are moving further and further away from God.
Jesus Loves you.
Howdy Dwab,
Welcome to the forum!
While I enjoy a spiritual relationship with Jesus, I'm not big on pushing it on others. I figure when Jesus knocks at someone's door, He doesn't need me to introduce him! If I start to try to make someone believe in Jesus, I'm interfering with Jesus efforts to reach that person. That said, I don't have a problem discussing faith if you want, but I'll still enjoy our friendship if we don't.
Now that's out of the way, I can get to the point of my response:
How can I help you? I'm available as I can be through this site.
My He/She/It Bless You,
Jess
I am going to first post an article about the evidence to support the belief in the Bible. Without God's word, believing in God would be very difficult and without God's word there could be no definitive way of addressing some of the things you spoke of.
Historical Evidence for the Bible
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the Bible is the inerrant and infallible word of God, as it claims (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21), we would expect there to be some evidence supporting these claims. After all, just because something claims to be the word of God does not make it true. We will examine the testimony of historical evidence to ask, Does the evidence support or deny the internal claims of the Bible?
Three tests can be applied to the Bible to see if it exhibits characteristics of a divine book that is without error. First, external evidence should confirm the truthfulness of the Bible in areas we can investigate. Second, internal evidence should show that, in one way or another, the Bible is unique. While these tests can establish the reliability of the Bible and lend support to the Bible's claims, they cannot prove its inspiration. However, the third test, a brief overview of Bible prophecy, will actually serve to verify the claim of divine inspiration.
The Testimony of History
External evidence from both archaeology and non-Christian writers confirms that the Bible--both Old and New Testaments--is a trustworthy historical document. Archaeologist Joseph Free has said that "Archaeology has confirmed countless passages which had been rejected by critics as unhistorical or contrary to known facts." [1] Renowned Jewish archaeologist Nelson Gluek confidently said that "It...may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference. Scores of archeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or exact detail historical statements in the Bible." [2] Christian apologist Josh McDowell tells us that "After personally trying to shatter the historicity and validity of the Scriptures, I have come to the conclusion that they are historically trustworthy." [3]
Some scholars once said that Moses couldn't have written the first five books of the Bible (as the Bible says) because writing was largely unknown in his day. Then, archaeology proved otherwise by the discovery of many other written codes of the period: the code of Hammurabi (ca. 1700 B.C.), the Lipit-Ishtar code (ca. 1860), and the Laws of Eshnunna (ca. 1950 B.C.).
Critics used to say that the biblical description of the Hittite Empire was wrong because the Hittite Empire (they though) didn't even exist! Then archaeologists discovered the Hittite capital in 1906 and discovered that the Hittite's were actually a very vast and prominent civilization. Archaeological and linguistic evidence is increasingly pointing to a sixth-century B.C. date for the book of Daniel, in spite of the many critics who attempt to late-date Daniel and make it a prophecy after the detailed events it predicts.
For the New Testament, Dr. G.R. Habermas points out that within 110 years of Christ's crucifixion, approximately eighteen non-Christian sources mention more than "one hundred facts, beliefs, and teachings from the life of Christ and early Christendom. These items, I might add, mention almost every major detail of Jesus' life, including miracles, the Resurrection, and His claims to deity." [4] Sir William Ramsey, one of the greatest archeologists to ever live, demonstrated that Luke made no mistakes in references to 32 countries, 54 cities, and 9 islands.
Liberal scholars used to argue that a town named Nazareth didn't exist at the time of Jesus, until archaeology of the last few decades confirmed its existence. The Gospel's portrayals of the temple, Pilate's court, Jesus' crown of thorns, and the mode of His execution have all also been confirmed. The list could go on and on.
The historical evidence clearly shows that the Bible is a reliable historical document. Since the Bible can be trusted in areas that we can check (its history), then this gives us a reason to trust it in areas that we cannot check (its claims for inspiration).
The Uniqueness of the Bible
The internal evidence test reveals the Bible's amazing consistency. The Bible was written by over 40 authors, in 3 languages, on 3 continents, over a span of 1,500 years, and covers hundreds of controversial subjects. Yet, the authors all spoke with agreement; there are no contradictions. [5] From Genesis to Revelation, there is one unfolding story--God's redemption of mankind.
Bible Prophecy
The external and internal evidence tests do not prove the Bible's inspiration, but do reveal that the objective evidence is consistent with and supports the Bible's claims to be a divine book (because any book from God that claims to be inerrant should be reliable and consistent with itself). Bible prophecy, however, can only be explained by divine revelation and inspiration.
There are hundreds of specific prophecies in the Bible which have been literally fulfilled, in many cases centuries after the completion of the Bible. Any attempt to late-date these prophecies is impossible--there is a copy of every Old Testament book but one from before 150 BC, and hundreds of these prophecies were not fulfilled until centuries later. For a detailed discussion of this area, see Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell.
Some prophecies fulfilled by Jesus are Micah 5:2, which revealed where He would be born; Isaiah 53 detailed His suffering, work at the cross, and resurrection; Psalm 22 is striking prophecy of the crucifixion.
Norman Geisler explains Ezekiel's prediction that the city of Tyre "would be destroyed and its ruins cast into the sea (26:2). This provoked scoffing because, when Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Tyre, he left the ruins right where they fell--on the land. But 200 years later, Alexander the Great attacked Tyre and the inhabitants withdrew to an island just off the coast for safety. In order to reach them, Alexander threw all of the debris, stones, timbers, dust, and everything else, into the sea to build a causeway that would reach the island." [6] If events so far in the future can be accurately predicted, certainly the events of the past have been accurately recorded!
Has the text of the Bible Been Altered Over the Centuries?
One last test investigates whether or not the Bible has been corrupted down through the ages in its transmission. If it has been significantly changed, then it would not be relevant to us since inspiration does not extend to any manuscript copy. How can we know whether or not the Bible we have today is the same as what was written?
This question is answered by the bibliographical test. This test looks at the number of existing manuscript copies there are, their agreement with each other concerning the text that they are copies of, and the time interval between these copies and the date of the original writing. All scholars agree that this test has conclusively established that the biblical text which we have now is nearly identical to what was originally recorded (for both Old and New Testaments).
Sir Frederick Kenyon, who was second to none in issuing statements about manuscripts, said this about the New Testament: "The interval between the dates of original composition and the earliest existing evidence [i.e. the earliest copies we have] become so small to be in fact negligible, and the last foundation for any doubt that the Scriptures have come down to us substantially has having been written has now been removed. Both the authenticity and general integrity of the New Testament may be regarded as finally established." [7] He further said that "No fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith rests on a disputed reading."
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which date from 200 B.C. to A.D. 68, included a copy of every Old Testament book except for one. Comparison with the texts of a thousand years later shows little or no variation and change between them.
Conclusion
The historical evidence shows that the Bible can be trusted. The commonly held idea that the Bible is unreliable or "just a myth" is unfounded. The internal evidence reveals the uniqueness of the Bible, a uniqueness which would be difficult to explain if it was just a human book. These two tests give credibility to the Bible's internal claims to be the word of God. The testimony of predictive prophecy, however, takes us a step further and confirms the Bible's claims to be inspired by God. Finally, the Bible has not been changed through the ages. The evidence shows that there is good reason to believe in the Bible.

God is not a part of this world but he sent Christ into this world for him, to pay the price for your sins and mine, past present and future, but God and the son are 1 unit with the holy spirit i think and, nah i know that for a fact. and all ya gotta do is say a little sinners prayer or whatever "Edited by admin" ya wanna say to him in your own words and believe in him, thats he was a real man, who died a real death on a cross 2000 years ago because there was no other way into heaven, to go to the father, you gotta go through the son. so you know what you need to do, your obviously older than me probly, you had 2 or 3 kids, with 1 more on the way, best of luck and GodSpeed. pe@ce, watch the passion of the christ, see what he did for us, ps mel gibson who directed that movie is catholic 2.
